Susurrus

Susurrus

Levi Wagenmaker

The whispering garden
with its verbaceous borders,
the soft hissing of trumpets
flowers praising Black Lily
clad-unclad
in satiny night,
her lily-black touch,
the red of her tongue
the palms of her hands
and the soles of her feet
a lighter touch,
her throaty laugh
a threat to devour--
fauvists would have had a ball
painting her
against the background
of the whispering garden,
with its verbaceous border
mouthing suggestions

Her mischievous grin.

Note on the text: 'Verbaceous', is an instance of someone taking liberty with language, 'word-play' on the term 'herbaceous border'.
